 Seoul Metropolitan Office have been fighting against trademark infringers from 2012 and announced their performance in 2016 on October 29, 2016 as below.
Seoul Metropolitan Office announced on Sept 29 that they have done intensive raids in Dongdaemun, Myeong-dong, Itaewon and etc on counterfeit infringers and found 98 cases, seized 40,946 items (worth of 19.2 billion Won) and 121 people were charged with a crime.
Since the announcement on last May 31st, they have been launching intensive raids on counterfeits and clothing manufacturing country trickery. They have found 8 vendors who have replaced ‘Made in China’ with ‘Made in Korea’ labels in Dongdaemun and charged 16 requestors, business owners and workers with a crime.
“They are not only replacing the labels but also attaching the fake labels onto the products imported from China and this is really serious.” Said Seoul Metropolitan officer.
They also found 4 suppliers and 1 manufacturer of the counterfeit smart phone components and seized 5,808 parts. Not using the genuine parts will decrease the durability of the smart phones and counterfeit batteries will increase the risk of explosion.
Seoul Metropolitan Office have found total 679 cases of counterfeit infringement and seized 183,300. This is equivalent of 86.4 billion Won. Mr. Seo from Economy department said “deceiving the country of origin and illegally copying products will not only eventually hurt the market but also hurt the ‘Made in Korea’ products. We will do our best to establish the fair trade market by continuous monitoring and raids” |
